Homeless Celebrate Birthday Bash
A large crowd of homeless men, women and children celebrated a group birthday party for all at John 3:16 Mission on July 13.
Too often, the homeless are forgotten and birthdays go by without any recognition. About 18 years ago, the Mission decided to hold an annual bash to allow everyone to share in a fun, collective birthday event.
There were games, lots of prizes, pizza provided by Andolini's Pizzeria of Tulsa (THANK YOU!)
and, of course, cake and ice cream. A big surprise, was a large donation of new shoes for both men and women. Each guest was allowed to pick up a new pair of shoes.
Another highlight of the party wasthe thousands of cards sent in by caring Tulsans (like you!) who wanted to offer their best wishes and support. The cards were put on the tables and in gift bags given to the homeless guests. Staff and volunteers saw the cards being read and more than a few tears flowed down faces.Thank you everyone who helped -- from donors and volunteers to Andolini's and everyone who took the time to send in a card to help make this a fun filled event for our homeless neighbors!
