“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done. (Prov. 19:17)
Joy is an elderly, disabled woman on a very limited income who struggles month by month to get by.
But her answer to difficult circumstances is simple: Give thanks.
“Every morning when I wake up and every night before I go to sleep, I thank God for that day for what He has given,” she says. “He’s always taken care of me.”
Joy drove her small utility scooter over 6 miles on cold morning to get a turkey and some Thanksgiving food items from John 3:16 Mission. Those turkeys and side items were furnished by the Mission’s generous donors.
“I’m thankful for those who provided this food,” she said.
Thank you for helping to feed the multitudes in Tulsa!
Joy said there are other struggling neighbors where she lives and she planned to prepare food enough for them, too.
Joy was not alone. Your generosity meant that thousands of struggling families -- in a time of high inflation and rising food costs -- got the Thanksgiving meals they were hoping for.
Each food box contained a turkey and enough trimmings to provide for a family of at least four.
“Since there will never cease to be some in need…, I therefore command you, ‘Open your hand to the poor and needy
neighbor in your land.'” (Deut.15:11)
In addition to its individual donors, John 3:16 Mission would like to express its gratitude to a host of community business partners who helped thousands of hungry and homeless people get the food they needed over the holidays. These partners include Reasors stores, Under the Sun Garden Center, Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs for serving as food drive locations in November. Volunteers including various church and civic groups made sure the food was sorted, boxed and distributed during outreaches.
